Abstract

Considering the importance of STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS as a pathogenic factor and various reports on its resistance to different antibiotics, the incidence of this microorganism and its sensitivity pattern was determined in personnel of Loghman hospital and referrals of internal medicine and infectious clinics. For this purpose, the sample was collected from the anterior portion of nasal cavity and cultured in blood-containing agar medium and sensitivity was determined in Muller-Hington medium for the antibiotics, oxacillin, cloxacillin, clindamycin, cefazolin, ceftizoxime, ciprofluxacin, and vancomycin. Then, data were collected according to Kerbi-Bauer method and analyzed by statistical tests. The results showed that out of 300 studied personnel, 105 were VECTORs of STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS. Meanwhile, three cases showed resistance to cloxacilin. Out of342 referrals, 116 were VECTORs and only four cases showed resistance to cloxacilin. It is concluded that in spite of a similar data as other countries for VECTORs, the number of VECTORs among hospital personnel is less than other countries. Therefore, it is needed to carry out more extensive studies to obtain more conclusive results.
