Abstract

The purpose of present study was to determine the relationship of GENERAL HEALTH and perceived SOCIAL SUPPORT with LIFE SATISFACTION in ELDERLY people. In this research, statistical population was ELDERLY people aged 60 or more in NURSING HOME in Tehran. Using cluster random sampling, 230 ELDERLY people (138 female &92 male) were selected. In respect to methodology of correlation, participants answered questionnaires of GENERAL HEALTH, SOCIAL SUPPORT and ELDERLY LIFE SATISFACTION, the collected data were analyzed by statistical tests of Pearson correlation and multiple regression. Research findings indicated that there was significant relationship between GENERAL HEALTH and perceived SOCIAL SUPPORT with LIFE SATISFACTION. As such, findings showed that there was significant relationship between residence time in NURSING HOME and GENERAL HEALTH and LIFE SATISFACTION. The results of the research provide some evidence to suggest that the components of GENERAL HEALTH and SOCIAL SUPPORT explain some variance of LIFE SATISFACTION. In addition, it is concluded that residence time in NURSING HOME explain some variance of GENERAL HEALTH and LIFE SATISFACTION in ELDERLY people. Overly, the components of GENERAL HEALTH, SOCIAL SUPPORT and residence time explain LIFE SATISFACTION by influencing loneliness feeling, control of life, independency, decision making, self-management, social communication and valuable feeling.
