Abstract

This research aimed to examine the role of SELF-CONTROLLING on PEERS’ interrelationship and their tendency towards SMOKING and ALCOHOLIC DRINKS. The research was correlational consisting of a sample of 470 bachelor degree students. The cases were asked to fill in questionnaires of self and others status and the sub-scale of self-control skills and at last the questionnaire of risky and preserving factors of drug consumption. Results of Pearson’s correlation indicated that there was positive correlation between PEERS’ SMOKING and students’ tendency towards ALCOHOLIC DRINKS; and also between consuming ALCOHOLIC DRINKS by PEERS and students’ tendency towards SMOKING and ALCOHOLIC DRINKS. There was negative correlation between SELF-CONTROLLING and tendency towards SMOKING and ALCOHOLIC DRINKS. Regression analysis showed that SELF-CONTROLLING and PEERS’ consumption of ALCOHOLIC DRINKS predicted %18 of tendency towards SMOKING; and PEERS’ SELF-CONTROLLING, SMOKING and drinking predicted %27 of tendency towards ALCOHOLIC DRINKS.
