Abstract

 The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between male young adults’ academic development motivation and the PARENTING STYLES, SELF-EFFICACY and EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. The research was descriptive correlational. The sample size under the investigation was of 200 male high school students, chosen at random in a cluster-multiphasic way from among 2 high schools in the educational Districts 4 and 5 of the Isfahan. The questionnaires for SELF-EFFICACY, EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and academic development motivation were completed by the students and PARENTING STYLES questionnaires were completed by their mothers. A stepwise regression analysis and a correlation test were employed in data analysis. The results showed that from individual and family factors the authoritative style, EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and SELF-EFFICACY are significant determiners of academic development motivation (P<0.01). In conclusion, PARENTING STYLES, EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and SELF-EFFICACY would influence adolescent's ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION which counselors and parents play a crucial role in this respect.
