Abstract

The present research sought to compare COPING STRATEGIES and MENTAL HEALTH in children of divorced and non-divorced parents; and to determine the relationship between these two variables. To do this research, 200 subjects (100 STUDENTS OF DIVORCED PARENTS and 100 ordinary students) from among the 4th-grade high school students of Tehran were selected using multi-steps sampling. Rodger and Najarian’s CSQ (COPING STRATEGIES questionnaire) and GHQ (general health questionnaire) were administered on the participants. To test the research hypotheses, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and T-test were used. The results indicated that children of divorced parents had a lower MENTAL HEALTH than ordinary children and they implemented more emotional and avoidance strategies. It was also found that there was relationship between cognitive COPING STRATEGIES and ----------------- strategies and high MENTAL HEALTH; relationship was also found between emotional/avoidance strategies and MENTAL HEALTH conflict.
