Abstract

 In this information technology age, methods of knowledge acquisition, preservation and implementation to do living affaires are of crucial importance. The present research sought to investigate the role of GENDER and PARENTS’ EDUCATIONal level had on students of primary teaching major at IAU, Karaj Branch in respect to reading and STUDY SKILLS. The research questions were: 1) is there a difference between male and female students’ STUDY SKILLS? 2) is there a difference between male and female students’ READING SKILLS? 3) Does the father’s education affect reading and STUDY SKILLS of students? 4) Does the mother’s education affect reading and STUDY SKILLS of students? Research method was of field study type. The population under study consisted 700 students in 1384-85 academic year. Sampling was random cluster method and the ultimate sample were 330 people. Considering the first research question, there was not a significant difference between female students’ average score and that of males in respect to reading and STUDY SKILLS, but reading accuracy was a bit higher in females while reading speed was higher in males than females. In respect to research questions 3 and 4, there was no relationship between PARENTS’ EDUCATION and their children’s reading and STUDY SKILLS.
