Abstract

Purpose: The main purpose of the present research is to investigate the attitude of the governmental special library MANAGERS toward the purchasing ELECTRONIC RESOURCES. To achieve this purpose, the state of the art of ELECTRONIC RESOURCES and problems of preparing and the way of providing them were investigated.Methodology: The research population consisted of 86 Tehran special governmental library MANAGERS, and 60 MANAGERS replied the questionnaire. Questionnaire was used to gather the data. To analyze them, descriptive and inferential statistics, T test and ANOVA were employed. Also, Excel 2003 and SPSS software were used to analyze the statistics.Findings: The findings of the research indicated that more than 50.57% of MANAGERS have had positive attitude towards ELECTRONIC RESOURCES and providing and purchasing of them. The results showed that although there are some ELECTRONIC RESOURCES in majority of SPECIAL LIBRARIES, but according to the growth of ELECTRONIC RESOURCES in the world libraries and their advantages, the amount of ELECTRONIC RESOURCES in the above mentioned libraries should be continuously increased.Conclusion: The most important problems affecting preparing ELECTRONIC RESOURCES are high cost of purchasing ELECTRONIC RESOURCES as well as needed equipment, and weak policy for selection of different ELECTRONIC RESOURCES. By increasing the budget of their libraries (at least more than 10% of budget), they can afford to buy and prepare ELECTRONIC RESOURCES and their equipment more adequately and efficiently.
