Title

STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF VITAMIN A ON THE EFFICACY OF COCCIDIAN VACCINE IN BROILER CHICKS

Pages

  11-16

Abstract

In order to study the interaction effects of VITAMIN A and coccidian vaccine on performance of coccidian-infected broilers, four hundred and eighty male day-old Ross 308 BROILER CHICKS were randomly allotted into four treatments in a 2´2 factorial arrangement. Each treatment contained 120 chicks (3 replicates floor pens/treatment). During the experimental period, treatments 1 and 3 fed diets supplemented with 0.1% premix of VITAMIN A. Treatments 3 and 4 were vaccinated against coccidiosis at the age of 5 days old by drinking water. Treatment 2 (as control) received neither VITAMIN A nor coccidian vaccine. The chicks in all of the treatments were challenged orally with 2´105 oocysts of Eimeria species (including E. acervulina., E. maxima, E. tenella and E. necatrix) at 26 days of age. From 7 to 13 days post-inoculation, feces samples in each replicates were taken for determining the number of oocysts per gram of feces (OPG).Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, and survivability were determined at 21,42, and 49 days of age. Results indicated that interaction between VITAMIN A premix and coccidian vaccine decreased OPG, feed intake as well as mortality and partially improved feed conversion ratio. However there were no significant effects on OPG and performance in coccidian-infected broilers.
