PREDICTION OF THE TEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION OF SNOWMELT RUN-OFF IN THE NEXT HALF-CENTURY UNDER CLIMATE CHANGE CONDITIONS

Abstract

 The effects of CLIMATE CHANGE on SNOWMELT, and as a result the occurrence of variation in the temporal distribution of flow, has a great importance in the water supply management of rivers with snow regimen. In this study, prediction of the SNOWMELT runoff for the next half-century for the KAROON RIVER basin was investigated. To perform this, two 25-year periods (2000-2050 and 2025-2050) hydrologic data were used. The SNOWMELT runoff (SRM) and ECHAM4 (global CLIMATE CHANGE) models along with 2 CLIMATE CHANGE scenarios (A and B) were used as well. The models predicted that in the KAROON BASIN, the winter discharge increases by 10 percent, while spring and summer decrease. Autumn discharge, however, was remained almost constant with no considerable flow variation.
