THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE USE OF COGNITIVE AND METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES WITH THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF M.A STUDENTS IN POLICE UNIVERSITY

Abstract

 The main objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between the use of cognitive and metacognitive guidelines with the academic ACHIEVEMENT of M.A students in Police University in 2007–2008. The sample populations were 96 M.A students who were studying at the third semester of academic year but due to the lack of cooperation in data collection phase, the number of students faced with loss and decreased to 71. The measurement tool in this study was the LEARNING STRATEGIES questionnaire (cognitive and metacognitive) whose validity was confirmed by the supervisor and co-supervisor and its reliability had already been obtained in previous studies and the researcher through Cronbach alpha coefficient. To do so, the questionnaire distributed among all of the students in each class and after collecting the questionnaire, considering the fact that the average of all respondents was available to the researcher, the x2 test and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis and the correlation between the use of cognitive and METACOGNITIVE STRATEGIES with academic ACHIEVEMENT of M.A students was confirmed in Police University in 2007–2008. Thus, it is recommended that for students to become familiar with the learning policies and strategies some appropriate workshops should be held at the University.
