Title

MORPHOMETRIC VARIATION IN DEEP WATER GOBY, PONTICOLA BATHYBIUS, FROM THE SOUTHERN CASPIAN SEA USING TRUSS NETWORK SYSTEM

Abstract

 This study was undertaken with the aim of morphological comparison among deepwater goby, Ponticola bathybius populationsin the southern CASPIAN SEA. A total of 185 specimens were captured from Bandar-e-Anzali (64 specimens), Salmanshahr (61 specimens) and Miankaleh (60 specimens) using a long beach seine from March to April 2014. 17 LANDMARKs were marked on the left side of body and then 135 interlandmark distances were analyzed using truss-based morphometric method. Also, nine meristic features were counted. Discriminant function analysis (DFA) on morphometric data showed separation among Bandar-e-Anzali, Salmanshahr and Miankaleh population groups (P< 0.05), as in assignment tests using a jack-knifing method, the average proportions of correct assignments were 68%. Non parametric multivariate analysis of Variance MANOVA analysis of the meristic data revealed that there was a statistically significant difference among three population groups (P< 0.001). The Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) revealed discreteness between Miankaleh population samples than the two other population samples.
