Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of 6 weeks HOPPING EXERCISES program on the DYNAMIC BALANCE of young male athletes with FUNCTIONAL ANKLE INSTABILITY. 30 young male athletes with FUNCTIONAL ANKLE INSTABILITY (age: M, 22.16±SD, 1.46 years; weight: M, 73.96±SD, 11.50 kg; height: M, 180.95±SD, 8.24 cm; and the instability score M, 20±SD, 2.31) were participated in this study. Participants were divided into experimental, and control groups. The program consisting of 6 types of HOPPING EXERCISES carried out by the experimental group. SEBT test was used to evaluate DYNAMIC BALANCE and joint position sense before and after the exercise program. Descriptive statistic, paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test were used to analyze the data. Level of significance was considered at p<0.05. The results showed that the hopping exercise program improved significantly the DYNAMIC BALANCE of the subjects with FUNCTIONAL ANKLE INSTABILITY. Progress directions were in the antero-medial, lateral, anterior, postero-medial, antero-lateral, medial, posterior, postero-lateral, respectively. Since young male athletes with FUNCTIONAL ANKLE INSTABILITY need DYNAMIC BALANCE in their skills, HOPPING EXERCISES could be suggested for preventive intervention.
