Abstract

This research aims to study "The Socio-Cultural Effects of Cell Phone on the Female High School Students of Arak City". For this purpose, the survey method of research has been applied, and the required data are collected by questionnaire. The collected data are analyzed using the descriptive and inferential tables of SPSS application software. The statistical population of this research consists of 5000 female students of the high schools of the city of Arak. The size of the sample determined based on Cochran's formula is equal to 357 individuals. The sample is taken based on quota sampling method.The results of this research show that most respondents use their cell phones less than 2 hours per day, and most of them have their own cell phone from the past 2 to 4 years. Moreover, most respondents have only one cell phone, and the family members of the correspondents are aware of their cell phone number. Most of the correspondents use short message system (SMS) for sending messages, and send mostly jokes, romantic sayings, etc. through such SMSs. Furthermore, they use Bluetooth to transfer images and visual files to their friends.According to the findings of this research, most respondents believe that:- The cell phone of their classmates and fellow students was not their reason for purchasing cell phone.- Having cell phone brings them the sense of freedom and more independence.- They contact their friends mostly with their cell phone, but they do not prefer to solve their problem through their friends and fellow students instead of talking to their families for the solution of such problems.- Cell phone does not cause they lose energy and feel tired (due to the long hours of talking with cell phone during the day).
