Abstract

The development of communication tools has caused value changes in rural areas just like in the cities. This study compares the different influence of using the CYBER SPACE on FAMILY members' VALUE SYSTEM in the rural and urban areas of the city of Esfahan. This is a survey study which used a researcher- made questionnaire to collect needed data. The research population consisted of all the people of Esfahan over 15 years of age, of which, using a quota sampling technique, 384 individuals were chosen as the sample. The theoretical framework was constructed on the basis of the ideas of Inglehart and Allport. Results showed that the effect of CYBER SPACE usage affects the FAMILY VALUE SYSTEM differently in urban and rural areas, mainly because of the various VALUE SYSTEMs to which people are exposed. Comparison of the results showed a higher rate of CYBER SPACE usage by urban families. The mean -difference test in two independent groups showed that there was a statistically meaningful difference between CYBER SPACE usage, on the one hand, and FAMILY VALUE SYSTEM and religiosity, on the other hand, among urban and rural families. There also was an inverse relationship between CYBER SPACE usage and FAMILY VALUE SYSTEM.
