Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to evaluate the electronic readiness of a sample academic library, Allameh Tabatabaee University.Methodology: The research was done using survey method and the population under study consists of the libraries of Allameh Tabatabaee University. Using questionnaire instrument and then collecting the required data, we estimated the total score of this libraries in terms of electronic readiness.Findings: The libraries have been evaluated using 65 indicators. Findings indicated that none of these libraries are in an appropriate condition in various dimensions of electronic readiness, especially in terms of networked plan and services dimension. In other words, they have a DIGITAL DIVIDE.Conclusion: Librarians need to have an especial attention to all indicators of electronic readiness. Hence, libraries should play their role alongside other sectors of the society like ecommerce and e-government so that the provision of information services will be possible in the information age. Using this indicators, future researchers can evaluate electronic readiness of other academic libraries.
