Abstract

Sexual function and marital satisfaction, as factors affecting each other, are considered as the important issues of mental health field. The purpose of current study was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy and BIOFEEDBACK combination therapy on VAGINISMUS patients’ SEXUAL FUNCTION and MARITAL STATUS. For this purpose, in a semi experimental study with pretest–post-test and the control group, 20 women with VAGINISMUS disorder referred to the Atieh psychiatry psychology clinic in Tehran selected by purposeful sample method and then randomly, were assigned to two groups of 10. The experimental group participants received eight sessions of 90-minute cognitive-behavioral, and combination therapy, and while, the control group participants did not receive any therapy. The participants of two groups in pretest and post-test stages were measured in terms of SEXUAL FUNCTION and MARITAL STATUS variables. The results of analysis of covariance indicated that experimental group’ sin sexual dysfunction disorder and marital dissatisfaction variables is significantly lower than the control group. Therefore, with respect to the fact that VAGINISMUS disorder significantly impaires patientś sexual and marital function widely, the use of cognitive-behavioral and BIOFEEDBACK combinational therapy can help them to improve SEXUAL FUNCTION and MARITAL STATUS.
