Abstract

 Nowadays we cannot assume cities without the existence of GREEN SPACES as the breathing lungs in the body of cities. Due to the environmental problems and other problems originating from growing development, allocating more and more areas to parks and GREEN SPACES is inevitable .. This issue is one of the most important factors contributing to the development of social communities and thus it is considered as indicator of the degree of the development of towns. This means that if one city lacks enough GREEN SPACES, we cannot regard it as health-giving or effective in the well-being of its citizens. This study is an applied one that has adapted a descriptive-analytical approach. We employed GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS), Index Overlap models (10) and Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) to analyze the location and distribution of GREEN SPACES within Najaf Abad, located in Isfahan. To this end the researcher prepared a comprehensive bulk of information about the location of parks as well as information about the percentage of citizens living in particular areas and their access to parks. The analysis was done on the basis of information obtained from the relevant standards to identify deprived areas and finally to prepare an acceptable pattern to optimize the distribution of GREEN SPACES. The results showed that the distributional pattern and the location of parks in Najaf Abad is not compatible with the needs of people, so it is strongly felt to construct other parks in suitable locations in the future.
