DYSMENORRHEA FREQUENCY AND SEVERITY AND ITS RELATED FACTORS IN STUDENTS OF ARDABIL UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE IN 1388

Abstract

 Background and Objectives: Dysmenorrhea is the most common gynecologic problem in females that affect personal and social activities. Considering importance of recognition of dysmenorrhea and its treatment, this study conducted to survey dysmenorrhea FREQUENCY and severity and its related factors in female STUDENTS of Ardabil University of medical science.Methods: In this descriptive analytical study 251 STUDENTS were studied using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 11.5.Results: The Mean age of menarche was 13.42±1.2 (years). 64.9% of STUDENTS had dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea was mild in 22%, modrate in 67% and severe in 11% of the STUDENTS. There was a family history of dysmenorrhea in 64.1%. There was statistically significant relationship between dysmenorrhea and economic situation, bleeding volume, exercise, stress, and family history of dysmenorrhea (p=000). However, no statistically significant relationships were observed between dysmenorrheal and menarche age and BMI (p>0.05).Conclusion: Considering high prevalence of Dysmenorrhea that affect personal and social activities, raising awareness of female STUDENTS about Dysmenorrhea and its treatment are necessary to promote STUDENTS health.
