STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF ZN-CO ALUMINATE NANOPIGMENTS PREPARED BY GEL-COMBUSTION METHOD

Abstract

 CoxZn1-xxAl204 NANOPIGMENTs (with x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1) was prepared via a GEL-COMBUSTION method using aluminium chloride, cobalt chloride and zinc chloride. The combustion took place at 500o C and its product was calcined at different temperatures from 700 to I 100oC. The resulting powders were subjected to X-ray diffraction, colourimetery and scanning electron microscopy for structural, colour specifications and microstructural analysis respectively. STA thermal analysis was also applied to com busted gels before calcination. Structural analyses revealed that the lattice parameter decreased by addition of cobalt as well as by increasing the calcination temperature. At x=0.6, the pigment calcined at 900oC demonstrated the best blue shade (the most b* and the least L*).
