Abstract

PHYSICAL EDUCATION has an important place in Islamic teachings, whether in QURAN and TRADITION or in the sayings of Islamic philosophers, by which we can explain the Islamic approach to PHYSICAL EDUCATION. Every school of western PHILOSOPHY has its own view on PHYSICAL EDUCATION. According to their theories, PHYSICAL EDUCATION in the human life is developed on the basis of a philosophical theory and enjoys a remarkable coherence and continuity. However in the Islamic schools of thought there is no sign of such a systematic study of PHYSICAL EDUCATION. So it seems necessary to deal with this issue. In this article our central theory is that according to Islamic sources PHYSICAL EDUCATION is a training process which engages man’s body and mind through acquiring and exercising dynamic skills and leads to the control of soul over the body and the growth of the physical and spiritual capacities and finally ushered into the ideal end.
