Abstract

 Introduction: Staff of emergency medical services (EMS) are the first health personnel who experiencing stressful situations and this is resulting to BURNOUT. So, identifying risk factors in them are important.Aim: This study was done for assessing level of BURNOUT among emergency medical services (EMS) staff in 2016.Method: This study was a cross-sectional and all pre-hospital technicians (emergency medical services staff) in South Khorasan were considered that (89) of them selected simple randomly. Participants were completed Two-part questionnaire; demographic characteristics and Maslach BURNOUT Inventory. Its internal reliability was (0.84) that estimated by Alpha Cronbach. Data was analyzed by using SPSS statistical software and descriptive and analytical statistical tests.Results: The findings showed that majority of samples were in range (25 to 30) years old and majority were married. They had work experiences between 3-8 years and their work hours (50%) in months were between (200-250) hours. The mean score BURNOUT was (65.31 ± 12.26) that the lowest amount in participants was 38 and the maximum amount was 90. The mean score emotional exhaustion was (20.25 ± 7.91), depersonalization (10.97 ± 5.41), loss of personal accomplishment (32.08 ± 8.67) that all of them based on Maslach BURNOUT Inventory were estimated level of mild.Conclusion: We need more studies that assess managers’performance and effective factors in job BURNOUT among emergency medical services (EMS) staff and their findings report to other EMS centers for future planning, implementation and continuing evaluation. Otherwise mild level of BURNOUT may be increased to moderate and sever levels in near future and it would be effect on all over the system and decreased quality of work in the end.
