Abstract

National output growth IS fundamental for economic development, which in turn, depends on efficient utilization of national and regional economic potential. It is evident that the growth of output on the basis of regional capabilities and potentials within national boarders help the dynamics of national economic growth and development.Based on COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE theories and their relation to regional economic growth, this article has attempted to introduce various measurement approaches of the COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE and evaluate crop production capabilities in Isfahan province in Iran through location quotient. This paper has also contributed to the relevant literature by introducing and applying two additional COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE indices.The empirical analysis has shown that Isfahan province has no COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE in rain-fed crop production. On the contrary, the province showed that it have COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE only in limited irrigated crops, particularly in pulses.
