Abstract

Based on important role of MANGROVE FORESTS as NURSERY GROUND for juvenile species in tropical and subtropical areas; aquatic species and their BIOMASS were determined in Sirik mangrove forest of Hormozgan Province. For the survey, we used of trawl net to catch species in mangrove habitat, The speed and duration of putting trawl net were respectively 4.5 Km/h and 32 minutes. Images of IRS Satellite (2004) using Arc Gis 9.2 software were used for estimation the area of species distribution. Results showed that there are 13 fish species, 2 shrimp species (Penaeus indicus & Penaeus merguiensis) and one crab species (Porutnus pelagicus) in Sirik mangrove ecosystem. Families of recognized fishes were Leognatidae, Gerridae, Polynemidae, Platycephalidae, Pomacenteridae, Sparidae, Scomberidae, Soleidae, Clupeidae, Trichiuridae, Chanidae, Engraulidae and Carangidae. Also two recognized shrimps were belonged to Penaeidae family and crab family was Portunidae. The main habitat of all recognized species were open sea and they used of mangrove ecosystem for temporal habitat and completing their grows. Finally the total BIOMASS of these species was 16.828 ton ha-1. Results showed that the BIOMASS of two shrimps was higher than other species that shows mangrove ecosystems are the best NURSERY GROUND for juvenile shrimps.
