Title

COMPARISON OF ECCENTRIC AND CONCENTRIC STRENGTH RATIO OF EVERTOR TO INVERTOR MUSCLES IN DOMINANT AND NON-DOMINANT LIMBS OF NON-ATHLETIC HEALTHY SUBJECTS

Pages

  11-17

Abstract

Background and aim: ANKLE SPRAINs are common occur in the DOMINANT LIMB. Muscle imbalance specially evertors have been hypothesized as cause of ANKLE SPRAIN. The purpose of this study was to compare unilateral ankle eversion to inversion STRENGTH RATIO (E/I R) in the dominant and non-dominant limb of healthy non athletic men.Material and Method: Twenty-one healthy adults without any physical training experience (age=24.86±3.3 years, weight 70.61±0.38 kg, height 176.0±6.09 cm) participated in this study.Ankle E/I concentric and eccentric ratio was measured by an ISOKINETIC dynamometer at the speeds of 30 s-1 and 120 s-1.Result: Statistical analysis indicated no significant differences were observed between dominant and non-dominant limb at the speeds 30 s-1 and 120 s-1.Conclusion: Although E/I R have been used clinically as an index for injury prevention and rehabilitation, but it is not cause of more prevalence ANKLE SPRAIN in DOMINANT LIMB.Research on other risk factors seems to be necessary.
