Abstract

Nowadays, maritime transportation companies are finding themselves in a very competitive environment like in other industries. Not only are they competing with the competitors, but also they are faced with constant threat from new entrants and potential alternative solutions and powerful service-providers on the international level. The 21st century notion places the emphasis of the success of entities on embracing development in all aspects relying on the knowledge of its experts together with new technologies. We are witnessing developments in many areas of maritime transportation and this has brought to point the need for KNOWLEDGE MARITIMERS.In this article we try to define the "KNOWLEDGE-BASED SOCIETY", incentives for innovation, LEARNING BUSINESSES and the place knowledge in the business, we will try to identify the effective factors in developing KNOWLEDGE MARITIMERS, so that managers can identify, and therefore, to enhance and manage those qualities, they can achieve increases in the relative productivity of their respective businesses.
