Abstract

Purpose: This article gives a definition of Science Map, reviews domestic and global Science Map researches to introduce the criteria and mythology of such researches. Methodology: This article tries to find the theories, techniques, methods, and leaders of the Science Mapping based on documentary research and literature review. Findings: Visual researches and representations of science have been practiced for over five decades in Scientometrics studies in the world; yet in Iran, it was commenced less than a decade. Despite using various techniques and survey researches, citation analysis method has been maintained its position as an accepted method for drawing the maps. Most of recent researches and studies in this area are common in using a six-stage process that begins with citation gathering, although the analysis unit can vary. Findings: These types of researches have been conducted in macro level in other countries while they have been done in micro level in Iran. In these kinds of researches, technique-oriented approach is surpassed to theory-oriented approach. Conclusion: the study revealed that books and other print materials are prior in use. Hence, use of Internet is increasing.
