Abstract

This paper is the study of the ACQUISITION of TENSE AND ASPECT in ENGLISH by 45 PERSIAN SPEAKERS and specifically investigates the Primacy of Aspect hypothesis that claims there is:(1) an association of past/perfective morpheme with achievement and accomplishment ver(2) progressive morpheme with activity verbs and (3) no overextension of progressive inflection to stative verbs. The study also considers the syntactic implications of the data for the 'initial state' hypotheses in present data.
