Title

A COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF TWO STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE OVERTRAINING PROGRAMMES ON THE PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES IN YOUNG MALE ATHLETES

Pages

  5-24

Abstract

The aim of this researches to determine the effects of two STRENGTH and ENDURANCE over training TESTOSTERONE, CORTISOL, aerobic and an aerobic pouler in young male athletes. The subjects of this research involved (n=26) physical education and non-physical education university students divided into two groups of STRENGTH and ENDURANCE athletes. Also some sedentary students (n-13) were selected as a control group. The result obtained through the application of ANOVA and Independent T-test demonstrated that there were no significant differences in plasma, TESTOSTERONE, CORTISOL, and anaerobic power changes between STRENGTH athletes and control group at rest. The results also demonstrated that there were no significant differences in plasma and CORTISOL changes between ENDURANCE athletes and control group at rest. But there were differences in plasma, TESTOSTERONE and. aerobic power changes between ENDURANCE athletes and control group at rest. The most important findings of this study is that after two OVERTRAINING programmes in STRENGTH and ENDURANCE athletes for one month, in ENDURANCE athletes, TESTOSTERONE, aerobic power and conisol concentration at rest decreased. Whereas in STRENGTH athletes, plasma, TESTOSTERONE and anaerobic power sligtly increased, but CORTISOL decreased. Based on data collected in this research, we might conclude that physiological and biochemical markers of OVERTRAINING in STRENGTH and ENDURANCE athletes may be different.
