STUDY THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EDUCATION & COPING METHODS IN DIABETIC CHILDREN

 Chronic illness is a stressor factor that effects on family. So patient and his family must learn how to live with the disease and cope with it. In this descriptive study, based on pilot study and method based on objective, 62 diabetic children (7-12 years old, having at least one year duration DIABETES, without other chronic or acute physical-emotional illness) were selected from two treatment centers in Tehran city. Considering the attendance of children and their parents in EDUCATION courses of DIABETES control, COPING methods were assessed by question are. The result showed that 48.38% of children and their family or their replacement were present in aforesaid EDUCATION. Survey of five COPING methods (Develope competence and optimism, comply with treatment, seek support, feel different and withdrawal, irritable moody and acts out) showed non effective use in seek support (35.5%) and irritable moody and acts out methods (12.9%) more than other methods. Also the findings showed that attendance of child with parents in EDUCATION classes caused to decrease non effective use of irritable moody and acts out method (p=0.006), and increase the effective use of comply with EDUCATION method (p=0.01). Other aspects of COPING methods with EDUCATION of a child and parent had statistically no significant relation.
