Title

COMPARATIVE EFFICIENCY OF VISIBLE LIGHT CURING UNITS (PAC, LED, QTH) IN PHOTO POLYMERIZATION OF A HYBRID COMPOSITE

Pages

  37-44

Abstract

Background: Recent development has LED to introduction of new curing lights (LED, PAC) which are claimed to cure, the composites in shorter time than QTH with the same efficiency. Objective: This study was conducted to compare the curing efficiency of plasma light (Reme Cure, Remedent, USA) and light emitting diode (Free light 3 M, St Paul, MN, USA) with quartz-tungsten-halogen light (Demetron 401, Kerr, Orange, CA, USA).Methods & Materials: Vicker’s MICRO HARDNESS values on top and bottom surfaces of 1, 2, 3, 4 mm thickness composite cylinders (Filtek Z250 3 M, St Paul, MN, USA) cured in a PTEE mold by irradiation with QTH (40s) and PAC (80) and LED (20s), were measured, and bottom hardness more than 80% to the surface hardness was considered acceptable. Statistical analysis was conducted by utilizing ANOVA at 0.05 significant levels.Result: Significant difference between microvicker’s values in all thicknesses was not found (p>0.05). QTH, LED and PAC curing units created acceptable 3mm depth of curing.
