Abstract

Introduction: Diarrhea diseases are one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In some countries, CHILDREN less than five years have diarrhea for 15% days of their life.Objective: Effectiveness of aqueous garlic extract against INFLAMMATORY GASTROENTERITIS.Material & Method: This is a clinical trial study and CHILDREN 2-10 years old who have INFLAMMATORY GASTROENTERITIS entered in this study. Sampling method has been randomized block design. Twenty patients were cases and twenty patients were control group. Two groups have same treatment protocol only in using garlic 20 mg/kg/day bid for five days in case group.Results: Aqueous garlic extract can reduce frequency of diarrhea meaningfully after 2nd day. There is meaningful difference about fever in 2nd day between two groups. There is meaningful difference about leukocyte in stool in 4th day between two groups. There is no meaningful difference about nausea and vomiting.Conclusion: we found out that garlic decreases fever, frequency and duration of diarrhea, leukocyte in stool and appetite fast. So aqueous garlic extract is effective herbal drug in INFLAMMATORY GASTROENTERITIS.
