Abstract

THE KHWARAZMIDS and THE SALGHURIDS (Atabaks of Fars), having risen from Khwarazm and Fars respectively, became connected to each other from the beginning of the seventh century A.H. despite their geographical distance, due to their conflicts in the central and the western Iranian plateau. Both governments were after these regions. Although this conflict resulted in a military opposition between the two governments, followed by THE KHWARAZMIDS’ involvement in the Mongol-waged wars, they were finally united as allies, due to their family links. As a result, during 620s A.H., at the time of Sultan Jalāl id-Din, THE SALGHURIDS were considered as the most important ally of THE KHWARAZMIDS against the Mongols. THE SALGHURIDS continued THE KHWARAZMIDS’ anti-Mongol policy, even after their ally was toppled by the Monglos.
