Abstract

Background and Aim: Despite many benefits of regular physical activities, lack of PHYSICAL ACTIVITY is a health problem in communities nowadays. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of the TRANSTHEORETICAL MODEL to identify PHYSICAL ACTIVITY in a sample of Ringleaders of Righteous of Guilan Medical Society of the Basij Organization. Methods: In this cross-sectional analytical study in 2016, all of the Ringleaders of Righteous of Guilan MEDICAL SOCIETY BASIJ Organization (N=101) completed the self-administered questionnaire consisting of 3 sections: demographic information, validated questionnaire of the stages of change model constructs, and International PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Questionnaire (IPAQ long form). Data were analyzed through SPSS 16, descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis. Results: Sixty percent of individuals with the mean ages of 40.7±8.3 years were in the inactive stage of physical exercise: pre-contemplation, contemplation and preparation. A statistical significant relation was observed between the behavioral process change and PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. Moreover, except decision balance and cons, other constructs had a significant correlation with physical activities stages of change. Also, the logistic regression analysis showed that there was a positive and significant relation between the counterconditioning behavioral processes of change with the amount of PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.Conclusion: The study findings support the application of the TRANSTHEORETICAL MODEL theory in the PHYSICAL ACTIVITY changes in Ringleaders of Righteous of Guilan Medical Society of the Basij Organization. Therefore due to the effective constructs (behavioral process of change), it is necessary for these constructs to be strengthened in order to maintain and promote the level of PHYSICAL ACTIVITY in this group.
