Abstract

Introduction: Learning theories can be used as principal guidelines in educational planning and Teachers by knowing the main principles of these theories can teach more effectively when they placed in different instructional settings.Literature review: This study aims at critical examination of different learning theories and their application in nursing education. For each school of thought, its pioneers, their main views, their strengths and weaknesses and their practical implications for nursing education are discussed. Among these theories, behaviorist psychology, cognitive psychology and humanistic psychology can be referred to.Discussion: At the end, each theory has its useful implications in its own contextual situation.
