Abstract

HEPATITIS A .a viral disease, is spread by the faeco-oral route. A specific serological test for HEPATITIS A is the simplest and most economical method of establishing the diagnosis: HEPATITIS A IgM is detectable in serum for 45-60 days after the onset of symptoms. Titres of anti-HAV in IgG rise with convalescence and the antibody usually persists for many years. Recovery from infection is associated with lifelong immunity In this cross-sectional study, Anti-HAV from IgG class against HEPATITIS A virus Was examined by ELISA method among 226 students which included 113 males and 113 females from YAZD GUIDE SCHOOL. Variables such as sex, age, parent occupation, parent education. economic status were proposed. Results showed that the mean age of individuals was 14.17 years. and 18 (8 male and 10 female) out of the total 226 did not have IgG against the virus and therefore considered as non-immune. There was no significant correlation between sex, parent occupation. parent education . immunity and Hepatitis. In conclusion, HEPATITIS A infection usually occurs in low age group in YAZD and administration of normal serum immunoglobulins for preventing HAV infection in adults older than 14 years is not recommended.
