Title

CORRELATION BETWEEN SERUM LEVEL PARATHORMONE, ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE, CALCIUM AND PHOSPHORUS OF PATIENTS WITH HEMODIALYSIS IN ZAHEDAN

Pages

  26-33

Abstract

Secondary hyperparathyroidism and its effects on bone is among the most important complications of end - stage renal disease. In the present study, we investigated the correlation between the serum level PARATHORMONE (PTH) of HEMODIALYSIS men and women with CALCIUM (ca), PHOSPHORUS (p) and alkalinephos phatase (ALK). We studied 30 chronic renal failure HEMODIALYSIS patients (16 Men and 14 women) aged 22- 66 years (average 44 years) with the duration of 5 months to 14 years (average 30 months) HEMODIALYSIS. We measured the serum Ca, P and ALK in intervals of 3 months and measured serum PTH levels in the third. Data analysis was performed with SPSS. Results showed that serum PTH and ALK were greater in women than men (90% versus 70%), but serum Ca and P were in the abnormality range, greater in men than in women (Ca: 8% versus 2%, P: 58% versus 50%). Correlation coeffeicient difference in PTH, Ca and P levels were statistically significant. Correlation was not observed between PTH, ALK and P in men, but with Ca level, there was a statistical significance for women, correlation coefficient was observed between PTH and ALK but not for Ca and P levels. Secondary hyperparathyroidism and its effects on bone were greater in women than men with HEMODIALYSIS.
