Abstract

One of the fundamental factors in development of any society is participation and lack of Social Isolation of that society that is remarkable from many years ago and its importance has increased over time. Reduction in level of Social Isolation in a society is a prerequisite for social, economic, cultural and political development and is associated with level of development of societies. Knowledge about status of Social Isolation of resident of a society has an important role in recognizing the challenges and strategies of development of society. It’ s also help to plan for achieving to sustainable development in society. According to many researchers and experts’ opinion, one of the elements that have a significant role in decreasing Social Isolation is Religiosity. This study aims to study the relationship between Religiosity and Social Isolation among resident of Mashhad city. This study performed by using survey method. Statistical population of this article consisted of individuals of fifteen years and older in Mashhad city which 323 of them were selected by multistage cluster sampling technique and were interviewed. The Data were collected using questionnaire. The research tool consists of a substantive Religiosity questionnaire and standard questionnaire of Social Isolation (De Jong Gierveld). The Data were analyzed using SPSS and Amos software. The findings show in terms of Social Isolation, the majority of respondents are slightly below the notional average level and in terms of level of Religiosity are more than average. The results also showed that there is a Reverse and meaningful relationship between Religiosity and level of Social Isolation, In other words, with increase in religisty, emotional and Social Loneliness rate reduced. Overall as the Religiosity increased, the Social Isolation is reduced. The results of multiple regressions also supported from significant role of consequence dimension of Religiosity in Social Isolation. The results of this article is in line with the vision of Stark, Bain Bridge, Berger, Young, Wilson, Durkheim, Putnam, Oddy and Yinger as the great sociologist who believe that there is a meaningful relationship between the Religiosity and Social Isolation.
