Abstract

EXERCISE TEST is an important tool for diagnosing coronary artery diseases and determining its prognosis in affected patients. However, remarkable achievements have been brought about by CORONARY ANGIOGRAPHY for diagnosing coronary artery diseases. Hence, any new methods that can improve the sensitivity and diagnostic efficacy of the EXERCISE TEST will result in improved easy diagnosis of cardiovascular disease in affected patients. EXERCISE TEST was conducted for 218 patients (130 men and 88 women) aged between 30 and 74 years (mean age = 50 ± 7 years), all of whom ultimately underwent coronary artery angiography. EXERCISE TEST was conducted using V4r instead of V2 chest lead, and the other 11 standard chest leads. Results of the EXERCISE TESTs were analyzed by SPSS (Chi square). 103 of 148 patients with significant coronary artery stenosis (more than 75% stenosis of cross sectional area) had positive EXERCISE TEST results in standard chest leads. EXERCISE TEST electrocardiogram of 25 patients revealed positive findings, both in V4r and in the other 11 standard chest leads. 15 patients displayed positive EXERCISE TEST findings solely in V4r. Of 218 patients studied, 148 suffered from more than 75% stenosis of arterial cross sectional area of one or more coronary arteries. Adding V4r to the other standard chest leads in EXERCISE TEST raised its sensitivity from 69.5% to 80%. Using V4R CHEST LEAD in EXERCISE TEST resulted in increased sensitivity of this procedure for diagnosing left circumflex artery and right coronary artery disease, however, sensitivity remained unchanged for diagnosing diseases of other coronary artery branches.
