IS AROMATHERAPY AFFECT ON VETERAN STUDENTS' ANXIETY?

Abstract

 Introduction: The recent studies of WHO's experts shows high prevalence of depression and ANXIETY in the developing countries in Asia and Africa.Aromatherapy, as an alternative treatment method can be affect on psychological and physical wellbeing especially in Veterans.The aim of this study, is defining the effect of inhalation AROMATHERAPY in reducing ANXIETY in veteran students of Tehran & Shahid Beheshti Universities of Medical Sciences in 2010-2011.Methods & Materials: 130 Vetrtsn students were selected and assigned randomly in 2 groups of 65 people as case and control. The first of all, pre-test was done. Pre-test includes Spill Berger ANXIETY Test. The independent variable was a mixture of essential oils of Lavender and Rose which were inhaled for four weeks, half an hour for each night by the case group. Lavender is calmative and has anti-ANXIETY affects. Rose can normalize sentiment and it especially use in depression, tension and stress. AROMATHERAPY references introduce the mix of 2 essences instead of using separately. For control group only sesame oil inhalation was used. At the end of the second week post-test1 and at the end of fourth week post-test2 were taken.Results: the students who received inhalation AROMATHERAPY had significant improvement in ANXIETY symptoms compared with pre-test and control group (p£0.001).Conclusion: the results of this study have confirmed the effect of inhalation AROMATHERAPY (the mixture of essential oils of Lavender and Rose) in reducing the Veteran students’ ANXIETY symptoms. Therefore this method could be a good alternative treatment method for reducing ANXIETY of all Veteran students.
