RESULTS OF EXTERNAL DACRYOCYSTORHINOSTOMY WITH SILICONE INTUBATION

Abstract

 Purpose: To report demographics, success, and efficiency of external DACRYOCYSTORHINOSTOMY (EXT-DCR) with SILICONE INTUBATION in cases of nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO). Methods: Records of 86 EXT-DCR silicone procedures performed over a 3 year period were reviewed. All patients had preoperative symptoms of tearing or dacryocystitis with a component of NLDO. Patient's demographics, history, examination findings, surgical information and complications, post operative success, and follow up courses were recorded.Results: From 77 patients, 53 were female (70%) and 24 were male (30%). Female - male ratio was 2:1 and average age was 45.9:t19.3 (range, 8-87) years. The most common symptom was epiphora (56%) and the most common diagnostic test was sac digital pressure. The rate oflong term success operation in our study was 70%.Conclusion: EXT-DCR with silicone intuhation is a successful operation in NLDO, requires limited follow up, complication arc uncommon, and patient satisfaction is high as compared with other techniques such as endonasallaser DCR as compared.
