Pages

  12-15

Abstract

Background and Objectives: BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA (BPH) is a common condition among elder men, and generating considerable morbidity and health care costs. BPH may be due to stormal, glandular or a mixed type from. The symptoms can be divided into obstructive and non-obstructive such as frequency and urgency If the obstructive symptoms are sever surgery is indicated, this study is aimed to investigate the relation between histologic types and symptomes in a group of patients with BPH.Materials and Methods: three hundred and six patients with BPH were evaluated during 1.5 year period . Histological type was determined. Any symptoms including dysuria, frequency, nocturia, urgency, etc, were registered. Frequency of symptoms and its number was compared between different histological groups. Results: the mean age of studied patients was 69.28±9.15 years old (range: 46-91). The frequency of cases with stormal, glandular or a mixed type were 83% and 12.09% and 4.9%, respectively. The number of irrigative, obstructive and combined symptoms were not significantly different between different histologic types of BPH.Conclusion: This study showed no significant relation between different histological types of BPH and their symptoms. Further studies with higher sample size are needed to affirm this conclusion.
