Title

EFFECT OF ANTAGONISTIC BACTERIA ON SCLEROTINIA SCLEROTIORUM, THE CAUSAL AGENT OF WHITE MOLD IN OILSEED RAPE

Pages

  307-328

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of some antagonistic bacterial isolates against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, the causal agent of WHITE MOLD in the OILSEED RAPE, collected from Rostamabad of Guilan Province under in vitro. Ninety eight bacterial isolates, were seprated from the rhizosphere of OILSEED RAPE infected by S. SCLEROTIORUM and antagonistic ability of 12 isolates of these bacteria (4 Gram positive and 8 Gram negative) were demonstrated by using the dual culture method. According to the results of biochemical and morphological tests, 8 isolates: P34, P13, P14, P9, P6, P26, P43 and P45 were identified as pectinolitic Pseudomonas fluorescens, three isolates namely B20, B24 and B21 belonged to Bacillus cereus and isolate B10 was identified as Bacillus subtilis. In determining the effects of volatile metabolites produced by antagonistic bacteria, Pseudomonas and Bacillus spp., it was found that all of the isolates tested, inhibited mycelial growth of S. SCLEROTIORUM in vitro. Culture filtrate and antibiotics of these isolates inhibited mycelial growth of the fungus as well. On king's B medium containing 5, 50 and 100 mmol FeCl3 all of P. fluorescens isolates produced which inhibited the mycelial growth of the Geotrichum candidum.
