Abstract

Antibacterial effects of 10 different antibiotic disks manufactured by 2 Iranian companies (Aburaihan and Pad tan Teb) have been evaluated and compared with the same kind disks from Oxoid (England).Kirby-Bauer disk diffiusion method along with standard strains; Staphylococcus aurous (ATCC 25923), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) and Pseudomonas aeroginosa (ATCC 27853) recommended by WHO, NCCLS and FDA were used.The results of this study showed that chloramphenicol disk of Pad tan Teb gave 100% and penicillin G 58% accuracy when tested with S.aureus (ATCC 25923) within control limits recommended by FDA and NCCLS. The rest antibiotic disks of Pad tan Teb and all 10 kinds of disks from Aburaihan gave 96-98% accuracy within control limits.Whereas the antibiotic disks of Oxoid company (UK) were 100% within control limits. In other words with the respect of accuracy and precision, except the penicillin G of Pad tan Teb, all other antibiotic disks evaluated in this study from both Pad tan Teb and Aburaihan were standard based on NCCLS and FDA recommendations.
