Abstract

Introduction: COLORECTAL CANCER is the second leading cause of death from cancer in Europe. P53, the most important tumor-suppressor gene, is the most commonly altered gene in COLORECTAL CANCER. This study was designed to detect the P53 exon 5 MUTATIONs in COLORECTAL CANCERs.Methods: This study was performed on 60 COLORECTAL CANCER patients. After extraction of genomic DNA, exon 5 of the P53 gene was amplified using specific primers in a PCR assay and the MUTATIONs of P53 exon 5 were detected by SSCP. Results: Fourteen tumors were in the rectum and 46 in the colon. Five cases (8.3%) had P53 MUTATION and 55 cases (91.7%) had no MUTATION in exon 5.Discussion: Our results demonstrate the implication of exon 5 P53 gene in COLORECTAL CANCERs in Isfahan.
