Abstract

Method for the treatment of TUBERCULOUS spondilitis still are controversial: the authors treated 49 patients with ANTERIOR APPROACH debridment and tricortical BONE GRAFT for vertebral fusion with antiTUBERCULOUS chemotherapy for one year. Post operatively, patients were encouraged to ambulate with cast corset protection as early as was possible. From these patients 25 were women and 24 were men. Their ages were between 8 and 74 years. 45 patients were followed up for a minimum of 2 years (median 5.17 range 2-12 years) 44 patients (%97.7) achieved solid fusion.All .patients (% 100) had improvement of backpain incompare of before the operation neurologic deficits completely recovered in %84 patients after 3 month. Kyphotic deformity improved in 43(% 95.5) patients. 43 patients (% 95/5) had achieved satisfactory out come but we had one (% 2.22) death because pulmonary embolism except this patient we had no serious surgical complication the authors therefor recommend anterior surgical approach With debridment, three cortical BONE GRAFT with AntiTUBERCULOUS chemotherapy to treat The patients with sever vertebral body destruction, patients with neurologic deficits and those that don't respond to conservative treatment Because of good result, and one stage operation with out of internal fixation, and low rate of complication.
