Abstract

One of merchant associations which was established in the years immediately after the end of world war I was called "Nahzat-Eghtesad" (The movement for [enhancement] of economy). The main reason for its establishment was the crisis in commercial relations between Iran and the Soviet Union which arised from the new ideological thinking in Russia. In reaction to this, Iranian merchants were aroused to sending protest to governmental officials, the Majlis, newspapers and the existing commercial institutions. It eventually led them to establish a totally fresh association called "The movement for [enhancement] of economy"; and in doing so showed their internal class integrity. They, once again, proposed what they had hoped would be accomplished, but to no avail, through the constitutional revolution and the Majlis, to the new regime in which they had put all their hopes and expected its full support to attain their goals.
