Abstract

The subject of this article is adopted from a research entitled study of cultural, social changes of families In Tehran during three generations which was finished in Autumn 1379 in the institute of social research and studies of faculty of social sciences of university of Tehran. In this research - considering the ultimate goal - the family institution has been studies from the viewpoint of changes that accurred during a period of less than a century (throush three consecutive generations) the main emphasis lay on cognition of the rate and direction of changes in Iranian families during the past three generations. This research is about family changes, mainly adopted from the viewpoint of Talkot persons (structural ,functionalism), but this is not a complete adoptation. In this survey with the multiple, Proportionate and systematic random methods we studies 383 families residing in 22 districts of Tehran holding the relevant quail -fictions. After exploratory studies, Whenever necessary we have used documentary study methods and also field studies the written sources relevant to the subject and questionnaire, were the resources of this survey. The result of this study indicate: 1) There have been changes in the Tehran Family. The attitudes of the member of a family about main issues such as marriage, relationship between boys and girls before marriage, dowry and trousseau, marriage ceremony, divorce and... have changed. 2) However, among the people of Tehran, the family institution is still considered a serious social subject, and efforts are being made to protect it. From this point of view, paying attention to family customs, supporting children throughout their studies work, marriage and even buying a house and removal of their possible difficulties and to accept this reality that aged persons should be under protection. This means safeguarding the family. 3) In the family, differences are more understandable based on the shape and the generation distinctions, in other words, changes in the family despite the reposing of new generations is for adopting and conformity with the new cultural and social conditions of Iran and the world.
