Abstract

Purpose: To assess the results of EARLY ADJUSTMENT STRABISMUS SURGERY.Subjects & Methods: Five patients (mean age: 29 Ys, 4 male & 1 female) who had had multiple strabismus surgeries were selected. Adjustable muscle recession was performed on 3 patients and adjustable muscle resection was performed on 2 patients. Induction and maintenance of anesthesia was provided by PROPOFOL. Adjustment was performed within the first hour after the operation. Alignment was assessed 24 hours and 6 weeks after operation.Results: There was no difference between measurements being done immediately after adjustment, 24 hours later & 6 weeks later. Pain and the vasovagal response were minimal in all patients.Conclusion: EARLY ADJUSTMENT after STRABISMUS SURGERY seems to be more comfortable than what we have been doing traditionally 24 hours after operation. Another advantage of this procedure is conjunctival reaproximation at the limbal area, which provides better wound healing.
