Abstract

Background: Commenting of injuries in cases referred to LMO requires specific knowledge in this field. Therefore a research project was carried out for the first time in 2001 at LEGAL MEDICINE Organization in order to develop new methods through reviewing EARlier methods of evaluation of EAR TRAUMA.Methods: In this study, 532 cases who were Referred to LEGAL MEDICINE Organization in 1380 because of EAR TRAUMA were evaluated. Data was collected through history, physical examination, paraclinic tests as recorded in information forms, then Analyzed by SPSS.Results: 71.8 Percent of cases were male (382 cases) and 28.19 percent of them were female (150 cases). In physical examination, 288 cases had perforated tympanic membrane and 10 cases (3.47 percent) had accident induced injury. 90.63 percent of cases healed up spontaneously and 9.37 needed surgery. In 48.14 percent healing occurred after 3 weeks but in 51.85 percent took more than 3 weeks. Conclusion: Because of insufficient duration of treatment (3week) in 51.85 percent of perforated tympanic membrane cases, it's better to spend much time to make forensic physician's work easier, saving much time and money and prevent prolongation of legal procedure.
