Abstract

Depilatore is one of the substance use in Iran and specially in prisons.As a result, with respect to its availability and low price is used for suicide. Morbidity and mortality is result from arsenic and corrosive agent. (65% Lime-25% arsenic-10% clay). This study include 158 patients (Group.1) and 33 deceaseds (Group.2). each of 158 patients were inspected, intentionally and from oral performed suicide. Mortality rate was 20.9%. In group 1. the most patients (95.9%) had 15-30 years old and in group. 2 the most persons (50%) had over 60 years old. In each of groups males were more than females and also in married patients.Mortality rate based on duration and quantity use of depilator. In patients who came to emergency room about 4-6 hours after ingestion (28%) and in patients who digested over than2 pockets depilators (72.7%) had most mortality. The most prevalent place that performed suicide was house and prison.
